Benjamin Smith (1815-1891) was born in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and died in Chicago, Illinois. He was a student of Mary Baker Eddy's, taking Primary class instruction with her in May 1884 in Chicago. There is no record of Smith uniting with the Christian Scientist Association or with the Church of Christ (Scientist). After studying with Eddy, he attended meetings held by Christian Scientists.
