Amanda M. Smith (1821-1889) was born in Kenduskeag, Maine, and died in
Provincetown, Massachusetts. She became interested in Christian Science in 1885,
purchasing a copy of
Science and Health with Key to the
Scriptures and trying to meet with Mary Baker Eddy. In 1886, she wrote to Mary
Baker Eddy, asking Eddy to recommend a Christian Science practitioner to treat her
daughter, Julia S. Cook.
