James B. Silsbee (1849-1929) was born and died in Lynn, Massachusetts. He worked as an auctioneer, an insurance agent, and a bookkeeper. He married Clara E. Phillips in Lynn in 1870. Together they rented Mary Baker Eddy's home at 8 Broad Street in Lynn from 1886 to 1887. There is no record of Silsbee studying with Eddy or joining The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
