Betsey D. Shaw (1814-1893) was born in Jackson, Maine, and died in
Denver, Colorado. She married Timothy R. Shaw, a farmer and blacksmith, in 1831, and
they moved to Exeter, Maine. After her husband died in 1868, Shaw moved to Denver. She
was the aunt of Celia F. Osgood, a noted educator, suffragist, and author, who was a
member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1886,
Osgood stated that Shaw was a member of the Church of Christ (Scientist) in Boston,
Massachusetts. However, based on the records available, we have found no further
information concerning Shaw's involvement with Christian Science.
