H. Frazer Shaifer (1848-1899) was born in Port Gibson, Mississippi, and
died in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He went blind as a child and lived most of his life with
his parents in St. Joseph, Louisiana. He was a musician. He became interested in
Christian Science when his mother, Clarissa "Clara" J. Shaifer, began reading
Science and Health with Key to the Sciptures to him. In 1886 he
wrote a letter to Mary Baker Eddy inquiring about Christian Science treatment for his
blindness and poor health.
