Julia D. Sanford (b. Stetson) (1831-1917) was born in Rochester, New York, and died in Los Angeles, California. She married Orson J. Dayton, a carpenter, in Salem, New York, in 1847. By 1860 they had moved to Chesaning, Michigan, where she worked as a tailoress. Orson died in 1867, and she married Junius S. Sanford, an architect and builder, in Bridgeport, Michigan, in 1873. They moved to Edmore, Michigan, sometime prior to 1880 where Sanford worked in the millinery and dry goods business. She became acquainted with Ann M. Otis, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's, and at Otis's recommendation wrote to Mary Baker Eddy in 1886 to order a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. After reading it, she wrote again to ask about terms for taking the Primary class with Eddy, but there is no record of her having done so. By 1910 she had moved to Los Angeles to live with her daughter's family where she remained for the rest of her life.
