John B. Roden (1849-1901) was born in Alabama and died in Birmingham, Alabama. He worked as a book stationer and was president of the Birmingham Book Company for many years. Roden married Cora J. Gilliam in Jefferson, Alabama, in 1876. In 1898, he served in the Spanish-American War as a private in Company C of the Alabama Infantry. Roden wrote to Mary Baker Eddy in 1886 to order a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. He was an elder in the Central Presbyterian Church.
