John L. S. Roberts (1839-1896) was born and died in Boston,
Massachusetts. In 1861, he graduated from Wesleyan University in Middletown,
Connecticut. After graduation, he studied and then practiced law in Middletown until
1874, when he returned to Boston and joined his older brother's law firm, Geo. L.
Roberts & Bros. The firm specialized in patent law and John L. S. Roberts
represented Mary Baker Eddy in the lawsuit she brought against Edward J. Arens in 1883.
Roberts also provided counsel to Eddy in relation to the family monument at Park
Cemetery and the sale of the Eddy farm in Vermont.
