Charles Baker Rice (1829-1913) was born in Conway, Massachusetts, and
died in Danvers, Massachusetts. He was a Congregational minister who was the pastor of
First Church, Danvers, for over 30 years (1863-1894). During this period, he also served
in the Massachusetts Legislature as a Representative (1876-1877) and Senator (1881). In
May 1885, at a meeting of Congregational ministers in Boston, Rice was critical of
Christian Science and his comments were later published in
The
Sun, a New York City newspaper.
