Sir James H. Ramsay (1832-1925), 10th Baronet of Bamff, was born in Versailles, Yvelines, France, and died in Perthshire, Scotland. He graduated with a M.A. from Christ Church at the University of Oxford in England in 1858, and he succeeded his father's title and estates in 1871. He was a historian known for producing a seven-volume history of England as well as A History of the Revenues of the Kings of England, 1066-1399 (1925). Ramsay received honorary doctorates from the University of Glasgow and the University of Cambridge, and he was elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 1915. Although he opposed the movement, his second wife, Lady Charlotte F. Ramsay, and three of his daughters, E. Mary Ramsay, Charlotte L. Ramsay, and Agnata F. Butler, were Christian Scientists.
