Sarah C. Porter (1840-1925) was born in Frankfort, New York, and died in
Freeport, Illinois. She married Benjamin L. Porter, a grain dealer, in 1861. She first
became interested in Christian Science in 1885 and wrote to Mary Baker Eddy, asking for
information about studying at the Massachusetts Metaphysical College. There is no record
of Porter studying with Eddy or joining The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in
Boston, Massachusetts. However, she was a member of the Freeport Christian Science
