Hannah L. Phillips (1803-1874) was born in Ipswich, Massachusetts, and died in Lynn, Massachusetts. She was the matriarch of the Phillips family, whom Mary Baker Eddy befriended in about 1864 while living in Lynn. In November of 1864, Eddy joined the Phillips family for Thanksgiving dinner, and the following week she published a vignette of the occasion in a local newspaper, titled "Day After Thanksgiving." Decades later it was reprinted in The Christian Science Journal and her Miscellaneous Writings 1883-1896. Eddy remained close with the Phillips family for several years until practicing and teaching Christian Science began to take up most of her time.
