George A. Philbrick (1832-1917) was born in Corinna, Maine, and died in
Chicago, Illinois. He was married to Mary Hinds Philbrick, a student of Mary Baker
Eddy's who helped with the growth of Christian Science in Iowa and Illinois. George A.
Philbrick began a career of public service working as an educator in the public schools
of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, and later he served as Town Clerk of Cicero, Illinois, from
1874 to 1904. There is no record of him joining The First Church of Christ, Scientist,
in Boston, Massachusetts, or a Christian Science branch church, but other records do
suggest that he was a Christian Scientist.
