Sarah B. Patterson (1840-1911) was born and died in Concord, New
Hampshire. She married Joab N. Patterson, a United States Marshal, in 1867. Her father
was Reverend Nathaniel Bouton, pastor of First Congregational Church in Concord, New
Hampshire, who baptized Mary Baker Eddy when she was a child and was a frequent guest to
their family home in Bow, New Hampshire. Eddy wrote to Patterson about her love for
Reverend Bouton and the church of her youth, indicating that the religion he taught "was
the vestibule of Christian Science." There is no record of Patterson studying with Eddy
or joining The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
