Celia F. Osgood Peterson

Celia F. Peterson (b. Osgood) (1862-1931) was born in Corinna, Maine, and died in Denver, Colorado. She was an American educator, suffragist, and author. She graduated from Denver High School in 1880, after which she embarked on a career as an educator. She taught continuously in the Denver Public Schools until 1898, when she married Joseph E. Peterson. In 1899 she was appointed as Colorado's Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction, serving under Superintendent Helen Loring Grenfell. Osgood became interested in Christian Science in 1885 and wrote to Mary Baker Eddy, asking for information on studying at the Massachusetts Metaphysical College. There is no record of her studying at the College, but she did join The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, in January 1898 and also authored several articles that were published in the Christian Science periodicals.
