Marcellus Munroe (1834-1911) was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, and
died in Newton, Massachusetts. He started his career as a clerk and bookkeeper and later
became an auditor. He married Mary W. Munroe (b. Blodgett) in Somerville in 1858. They
both took the Primary class with Mary Baker Eddy in January 1883. Mary went on to take
Eddy's Normal and Obstetrics classes and became a practitioner and teacher of Christian
Science. In the late 1880s the Munroes moved to Boston, Massachusetts, and in 1889
Marcellus became one of the Trustees, along with Alfred Lang and William G. Nixon, who
held the title to the lot of land in Boston upon which the edifice of The First Church
