Edward S. Morse (1832-1904) was born in Wardsboro, Vermont, and died in
Brattleboro, Vermont. He was ordained a Methodist minister in 1865 and worked as a
traveling preacher until about 1875, when he went into the business of manufacturing and
selling ash timber products in Wardsboro. There he married Philinda M. Morse (b.
Haskins). She died in 1888, and he married Cola C. Morse (b. Johnson) in 1889. In 1890
they moved to Brattleboro, and Morse went into the real estate business and later into
the coal and wood business with the firm Morse & Lazelle. He also served on the
board of bailiffs. In 1886, Morse wrote to Mary Baker Eddy to order a copy of
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
