Edward S. Morse (1832-1904) was born in Wardsboro, Vermont, and died in Brattleboro, Vermont. He was ordained a Methodist minister in 1865 and worked as a traveling preacher until about 1875, when he went into the business of manufacturing and selling ash timber products in Wardsboro. There he married Philinda M. Morse (b. Haskins). She died in 1888, and he married Cola C. Morse (b. Johnson) in 1889. In 1890 they moved to Brattleboro, and Morse went into the real estate business and later into the coal and wood business with the firm Morse & Lazelle. He also served on the board of bailiffs. In 1886, Morse wrote to Mary Baker Eddy to order a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
