George C. Mitchell (1863-1945) was born in Monticello, Minnesota, and died in Oak Harbor, Washington. By 1880 he was living with his family in Plymouth, New Hampshire, and by the mid-1880s he had moved to Sacramento, California, where he was in business as G. C. Mitchell & Co., General Collection & Commission Agency. Sometime after 1888 he moved to Seattle, Washington, and by 1900 to Selah, Washington, where he bought and operated a farm while also engaging in business in nearby Yakima, Washington, as president of the Central Bank & Trust Co. and president of Mitchell Investment Co. In 1896 he married Hazel B. Mitchell (b. Doust) in Tacoma, Washington. Sometime after 1935 they moved to Kruse, Washington, where Mitchell was a poultry farmer, and around 1942 they settled in Oak Harbor. While living in Sacramento in 1886, Mitchell wrote to Mary Baker Eddy to order two copies of
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
