Rufus H. Mellen (1818-1899) was born in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, and died in Amboy, Illinois. In 1842, he married Laura E. Mellen (b. Patten). He worked in agriculture, as a clerk, and as a postmaster. In 1886, Mellen wrote to Mary Baker Eddy to order a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
