George S. Meigs (1843-1888) was born in Aurora, Illinois, and died in New
York, New York. He was a Civil War veteran, serving in Company C of the 7th Illinois
Volunteer Infantry Regiment. After the war, he pursued a career in dentistry, graduating
from Maryland Dental College in 1877 and then practicing in New York, New York. Meigs
was introduced to Christian Science by Laura V. Lathrop, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's
who was married to his first cousin, Orvis C. Lathrop.
