Mildred Nettie Hall McQuaid (1869-1945) was born near Denver, Colorado,
and died in Park County, Colorado. She was a student of Mary Baker Eddy, taking Primary
class with her in January 1887 and joining the Christian Scientist Association shortly
after. Mildred, along with her mother, Mary, and sister, Minnie, were instrumental in
the early growth of Christian Science in Denver, Colorado. The Halls became interested
in Christian Science in 1885 after receiving Christian Science treatment through prayer
from two of Eddy's students in Chicago. Later, after returning to Denver, Minnie founded
the Colorado Christian Science Institute (1886) and Mildred maintained a practice with
her mother, Mary. They had a shared listing in
The Christian Science
Journal in 1890 and 1891. Mildred appears to have stopped her public Christian
Science healing practice in the early 1890s and pursued a career as a traveling stage
actor. She first married fellow stage actor, George W. Wessells (1904), and they lived
for a time in New York City, returning to Denver, Colorado, sometime before 1908, when
Wessells passed on. She then married cattle rancher, Thomas F. McQuaid (1911), and they
lived on the Hall family ranch property in Park County, Colorado, where Thomas managed
and expanded the ranch. She joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston,
Massachusetts, on June 3, 1899 and remained a member until her passing.
