James J. McElhinney (1847-1938) was born in New York and died in Buffalo, New York. He worked as a contractor and builder and married Jennie Brownell in 1874. Mary M. Schubert wrote to Mary Baker Eddy in 1886 to order three sets of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and had them sent to McElhinney, her brother, who was working as an expressman at American Express, a freight forwarding company, at the time.
