Catherine S. McBean (b. Stewart) (1842-1935) was born in Lancaster, Ontario, Canada, and died in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She married Alexander G. McBean, a grain dealer, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in 1870. They later lived in Lancaster and named their home Thornhill Farm. McBean first heard of Christian Science while living in Montreal in 1888 and decided to read Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. She became a student of Mary Baker Eddy's, completing the Primary class in February 1889 and the Normal class in November 1898. McBean joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 31, 1892. In 1909, she served on the committee that worked to unite First and Second Churches of Christ, Scientist, Montreal. McBean was listed in the directory of The Christian Science Journal as a Christian Science teacher and practitioner in Canada from 1898 until 1925. After her husband's death in 1919, she moved to Winnipeg in 1922 to live with her daughter, and she spent many winters in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
