
Emma E. Marnock (b. Mason) (1855-1913) was born in Craftsbury, Vermont,
and died in Glover, Vermont. In 1870 she moved with her family to Massachusetts where
she married Frank A. Varnum in Lowell in 1873. He was a painter and a printer. He died
in 1902, and in 1908 she moved to Glover and married Thomas Marnock. He was a Civil War
veteran, enlisting in Vermont in January 1864 as a Private in the 11th Infantry and then
being mustered into Company F, 1st Heavy Artillery. After deserting, he was captured in
June 1864 and sent to work on the Weldon Railroad in Virginia as a prisoner of war,
escaping in January 1865. Later he became a farmer. In 1886, Emma Marnock wrote to Mary
Baker Eddy to order a copy of
Science and Health with Key to the
Scriptures for her brother, Benjamin H. Mason. She studied Christian Science
with Emeline A. Merriman and became a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, in
Lowell. She joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts on
October 5, 1895. Marnock was also a member and senior vice president of Mason W. R. C.,
Number 51, in Orleans County, Vermont.
