Mary Macmillan (1854-?) was born in Stewarton, Scotland. Her father, William Macmillan, was one of the founders of the Macmillan Publishing Company. Her family emigrated to Canada when she was a child and Macmillan spent much of her adult life in Detroit, Michigan. She worked as an assistant at the Detroit Christian Science Institute, and in this role she wrote to Mary Baker Eddy a number of times between 1886 and 1888 in regard to book orders. Macmillan took the Primary Class with Eddy in May 1887 and inquired in 1892 about taking the Normal Class also. She had joined the National Christian Science Association by 1888 and attended the 5th Convention in New York in 1890 with her sister, Annie M. Knott (b. Macmillan). Mary and Annie were working together as practitioners in Detroit between 1890 and 1895.
