Daniel Lothrop (1831-1892) was born in Rochester, New Hampshire, and died in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1868, he founded the book publisher D. Lothrop & Co in Boston. His business focused on children's and young adult literature and it published several children's periodicals, including: Wide Awake, Babyland, and Our Little Men and Women. D. Lothrop & Co was renamed Lothrop Publishing Company. In 1904 it went bankrupt.
