George C. Lorimer (1838-1904) was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and died
in Aix-les-Bains, France. He was a distinguished Baptist minister who held pastorates
all over the United States. He graduated from Georgetown College in Kentucky in 1859 and
was ordained shortly after, accepting the pastorate of a Baptist church in Paducah,
Kentucky. In 1873, he accepted the pastorate at Tremont Temple, Boston, a position he
held twice (1873-1879, 1891-1901). Lorimer was instrumental in fundraising for the
reconstruction of Tremont Temple after it burned down in 1893. When a memorial service
was held for him at the building, a reported 4,000-5,000 people were in attendance to
mourn his passing.
