Drayton S. Lewis (1837-1897) was born in Pennsylvania and died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Lewis worked as a clerk before becoming editor of Philadelphia's Press, a position he maintained until 1876. He later worked as a political reporter for the Evening Telegraph in 1882 until his death. He was the treasurer of the Reporters' Club and supported the temperance movement. He was a high ranking Freemason and a prominent member of the Odd Fellows. Lewis wrote to Mary Baker Eddy in 1886, asking for a recommendation of a Christian Science healer in Philadelphia for one of his sisters-in-law.
