Samuel H. Larminie (1837-1885) was born in Westport, Ireland, and died in
Chicago, Illinois. He was a commission merchant who founded S. H. Larminie & Co. in
Chicago in 1865. In 1883, ill-health forced him to retire and sell the business to his
partners, Edward A. and James L. Bigelow. Samuel and his wife, Hannah, became interested
in Christian Science in early 1885 after returning to Chicago from San Diego,
California. Hannah went on to take the Primary (1885 and 1888), Normal (1886), and
Obstetrics (1887) classes with Mary Baker Eddy.
