Nathaniel G. (Gould) Ladd (1798-1885) was born in Chelsea, Vermont, and
died in Malden, Massachusetts. After studying with his uncle, Dr. John Ladd, of Lee, New
Hampshire, and with Dr. Thomas Sargent of Chester, Vermont, he attended medical lectures
at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. After graduating from Dartmouth in 1825,
he began his medical practice in Morgan, Vermont. He moved to Meredith, New Hampshire,
in 1832. In 1835, he moved to Sanbornton Bridge, New Hampshire, where his patients
included the Baker family and he treated Mary Baker Eddy in her youth. He continued his
practice in Sanbornton Bridge until his move to Malden, Massachusetts, in 1864, where he
remained until his death.
