Hortense R. Kelley (c. 1850-1929) was born in Maine and died in
Brookline, Massachusetts. Her family moved to Lynn, Massachusetts, when she was a young
girl. Kelley worked as a milliner and married George Fuller, a shoemaker, in Lynn in
1869. They eventually divorced and she married Harding A. Kelley, a dry goods merchant,
in Lynn in 1890. They both joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston,
Massachusetts, on June 23, 1903, and were members of First Church of Christ, Scientist,
Reading, Massachusetts. The Kelleys took class instruction with Julia E. Prescott, a
student of Eddy's. In 1906, Kelley shared recollections of Eddy from the time of her
second husband, Daniel Patterson's dental practice, as well as when Eddy stayed with
Susan L. and Thomas C. Oliver in Lynn during the early 1870s.
