Lucian Hunt (1822-1913) was born in Woodbury, Vermont, and died in Gorham, Maine. He attended Woodman Sanbornton Academy in Sanbornton Bridge (now Tilton), New Hampshire, in 1840 and was a graduate of the New Hampshire Conference Seminary, of which he later became a trustee. Hunt worked as a teacher, and was principal of Marlow Academy in Marlow, New Hampshire, in 1847, Powers Institute in Bernardston, Massachusetts, from 1864 to 1868, and of Lawrence Academy in Groton, Massachusetts, in 1872 until he retired in 1881. He received an honorary degree from Wesleyan University. Hunt married Caroline Higgins in 1863.
