Daniel B. Hoyt (1822-1894) was born in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and died
in Derby, Connecticut. He became interested in Christian Science in early 1885 when he
and his wife, Lucy, wrote to Mary Baker Eddy asking for advice regarding Christian
Science treatment through prayer. Hoyt and his wife helped grow Christian Science in
Derby (then known as Birmingham) and their daughter, Bertha M. Hoyt, later became a
Christian Science practitioner listed in the directory of
The Christian
Science Journal.
