P00967 James C. Howard (c.1850-1928) was a charter member and the first
Treasurer of the Massachusetts Metaphysical College. Some of the early meetings of the
College were held at his residence at 10 Atherton Street in Boston. He was also a
student of Mary Baker Eddy's, studying with her in February 1880. Howard was an active
member of the Christian Scientist Association and the Church until his resignation,
along with eight other students, in October 1881. The remaining members of the
Association voted to expel Howard at a meeting held on November 9, 1881, for conspiring
against Mary Baker Eddy and for fraud and falsehood.
