Erich Homuth (1850-1915) was born in Germany and died in Kansas City, Kansas. He came to the United States in 1880 and established his own business as a bookseller, stationer, and news dealer in Wyandotte, Kansas. A native German speaker, he also gave language lessons and was appointed as a local agent for five steamship lines running between American ports and Europe. Later in life, Homuth was employed as a town assessor and in charge of making the election ballots for Wyandotte county. He was a member of the German Methodist church. Homuth wrote to Mary Baker Eddy in 1885, looking to purchase a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. There is no record of Homuth studying with Eddy or joining The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
