Adaline E. Hinkley (1832-1919) was born in Jordan, New York, and died in
Lone Tree, Iowa. She married Samuel E. Hinkley in Iowa in 1857. Hinkley traveled to
Chicago, Illinois, in 1885 to receive Christian Science treatment through prayer from
Mary Hinds Philbrick, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's, and wrote to Eddy asking for
further advice. There is no record of Hinkley studying with Mary Baker Eddy or uniting
with The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
