Bettie L. Heegard (1849-1929) was born in Marengo, Illinois, and died in
Los Angeles, California. She was a homeopath who attended the last five days of Mary
Baker Eddy's May 1884 Primary class in Chicago. She graduated from the Chicago
Homeopathic Medical College in 1880 and was granted an Illinois state license to
practice in 1881. She maintained a homeopathic practice in Chicago until the early
1920s. Although she attended Eddy's class, there is no record of her joining the
Christian Scientist Association or uniting with the Church of Christ (Scientist).
