John H. Hall (1838-1908) was born in Portland, Maine, and died in
Tamworth, New Hampshire. He worked as a carpenter and a contractor, and he was chosen to
build a summer home for President Grover Cleveland in Tamworth. Hall was a practicing
Quaker. He married Anna F. Hoag in Windham, Maine, in 1860. Hall wrote to Mary Baker
Eddy in 1886, inquiring whether there were any students in Portland whom she could
recommend. Based on the records available, we have found no further information
concerning his involvement with Christian Science.
