Charles L. Hall (1835-1907) was born in Sherman, New York, and died in
Denver, Colorado. He moved to Jackson County, Iowa, with his parents in 1844 and
graduated from Iowa College in Davenport, Iowa, in 1859. After graduating, he moved to
Colorado and eventually became a successful prospector and rancher who owned about forty
mines in Colorado and Arizona. During the American Civil War, Hall served as a
lieutenant in the second Colorado Cavalry. He married Mary Melissa Hall in 1862. Hall
was twice elected to the state legislature from the Eighth Colorado District
(Leadville), and served for three years as the county commissioner. His wife and
daughters, Minnie B. Hall DeSoto and Mildred N. Hall, were instrumental in the early
growth of Christian Science in Denver. Based on the records available however, we have
found no further information concerning his involvement with Christian Science.
