R00035 Samuel Whitney Hale (1822-1891) was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and
died in Keene, New Hampshire. He was a businessman and Republican politician who served
as the 39th Governor of New Hampshire from June 1883 until June 1885. Correspondence
suggests that he was interested in receiving Christian Science treatment from Alice B.
Poole, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's. There is no record of him studying with Mary
Baker Eddy or uniting with the Church of Christ (Scientist).
