Peter Haggerty (1830-1866) was born in Ireland and died in New Orleans,
Louisiana. He worked as a lawyer and married Achsah F. Crane in Lowell, Massachusetts,
in 1861. Haggerty was a captain and aide-de-camp to Union general Benjamin F. Butler
during the American Civil War. By the time of his death, he had been promoted to major.
Haggerty responded to Mary Baker Eddy (then Patterson) when she wrote to Gen. Butler in
1861.
