Lucy E. Griswold (1835-1915) was born in New York and died in Fremont,
Nebraska. She worked as an educator in the Fremont public school system and later, in
the 1890s, taught at an evening school for women. In September 1884 she was injured when
a wooden amphitheater collapsed at the annual reunion of the Grand Army of the Republic,
Camp McPherson, Fremont. After the accident she was unable to walk without the use of a
cane and consequently was unable to work. In May 1885 she received Christian Science
treatment through prayer from Jennie B. Fenn, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's. Later in
1885 Griswold wrote to Eddy asking for information on classes at the Massachusetts
Metaphysical College. There is no record of Griswold studying at the College or joining
The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
