L. D. (Lorenzo Dow) Gowen (1824-1909) was born in Shapleigh, Maine, and died in Santa Ana, California. He was a Baptist minister who was ordained in 1856 after graduating from Rochester Theological Seminary, now known as Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School. He ministered all over the United States, including Norwalk, Connecticut, and Galva, Illinois. There is no record of Gowen studying with Mary Baker Eddy or uniting with the Church of Christ (Scientist).
