Abbie F. Googins (1845-1890) was born and died in Barnstable,
Massachusetts. She became interested in Christian Science in the early 1880s while
living in Boston with her husband, Henry W. Googins. Records suggest she started
attending services at the Church of Christ (Scientist) in late 1883, joining the Church
in February 1885. In 1885 she received Christian Science treatment through prayer from
Sarah H. Crosse, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's. Googins was also invited to study with
Eddy in April of the same year but turned down the invitation. There is no record of her
studying with Eddy at a later date. Nor is there a record of Googins' withdrawal or
dismissal from the Church.
