Catharine "Kittie" A. Gates (b. Slade) (1844-1917) was born in Half Moon, New York, and died in Bellows Falls, Vermont. In about 1865, she married Nathan P. Gates. He was a teacher, a Civil War veteran who served for New York, and then a railroad worker. By 1886, the couple were living in Bellows Falls, Vermont. Gates received Christian Science healing treatment from Mrs W. W. Robbins, who recommended that she seek further treatment from Mary Baker Eddy herself. Her husband wrote to Eddy to request that she treat Gates.
