Marie Gaston (1845-1902) was born in England and died in Deadwood, South
Dakota. She served as the first president of the Round Table Club (RTC), a women's club
established in Deadwood to promote the study of literature and history. The RTC
spearheaded the movement to establish Deadwood's first public library, and Gaston served
as Deadwood's first librarian from 1895 until her passing. She became interested in
Christian Science in 1884 after visiting a friend in Chicago.
