Frederick "Fred" E. Garland (1858-1947) was born and died in Augusta, Maine. He was a Rural Free Delivery mail carrier for the Augusta post office for his whole career. In 1886 Garland wrote to Mary Baker Eddy to order a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, and on November 1, 1898, he joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was also a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Augusta. He married Etta Mae Garland (b. Cummings) in Augusta in 1905.
