Amos G. Gale (1807-1861) was born in Kingston, New Hampshire, and died in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was a prominent Manchester doctor educated at Dartmouth College. He married Mary G. Ayer in Portland, New Hampshire, in 1831. After his death, Mary Baker Eddy traveled to New Hampshire in 1868 at the request of the family when Mary Ayer was ill with pneumonia and healed her. When Clara Shannon, a student of Eddy's, later asked Eddy what had prompted her to write her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Eddy told Shannon of this healing.
