Charles H. Foye

Charles H. Foye (1843-1897) was born in Portland, Maine, and died in Brooklyn, New York. In 1885, he wrote to Mary Baker Eddy to inquire about the possibility of his wife, Mary E. Hale Foye, studying at the Massachusetts Metaphysical College. Later, in September 1885, Mary E. Hale Foye took Primary class instruction with Eddy. In 1890, the Foyes moved to Brooklyn, New York, to live with Pamelia J. Leonard and help with the growth of Christian Science in the area. While there, in August of that year, their son, Henry, died and Charles H. Foye was subsequently arrested on charges of criminal negligence for failing to seek medical care. The case was tried before the grand jury in February 1891. The jury refused to return an indictment, so the case was dismissed. Foye joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, in April 1896 and was a member until his passing.
