Leonard R. Foster (1807-1897) was born in Moretown, Vermont, and died in Waterbury, Vermont. He was a farmer and a carpenter. He married Jane B. Foster (b. Johnson) in Moretown in 1832, and they had six children, the youngest of whom, Ebenezer J. Foster Eddy, was legally adopted by Mary Baker Eddy in 1888. Leonard represented the Abolitionist party in the Vermont legislature in 1852 and was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. Jane died in 1859, and Leonard married Liva A. Foster (b. Evans) in Moretown in 1862. Sometime prior to 1880 they moved to Waterbury, Vermont, where they remained for the rest of their lives.
